6 NYFW Shows That Pulled Out all the Stops

When it comes to New York city’s fashion cred, the locals never disappoint and for Fall 2016 designers didn’t shy away from street savvy designs that conveyed: grit, edge and bit of ego and persona with it—along with a mix of gothic lolita meets fallen angel—the concepts were there this season. See our top 6 NYFW picks and videos that truly unveil the season’s finest shows.

Rodarte Fall 2016, Fallen Angel
In an ideal world, every piece of clothing I own would be Rodarte—the Mulleavy sisters know how to design and create pieces with artistic value and longevity. Fall 2016 was yet another win for the sisters, who were able to capture a dark moody spin on fantastical, clothes that evoked profound emotion. Cascading ruffled dress, luxe furs and moody dark lips painted the picture of a fallen angel.

Alexander Wang Fall 2016, Street Value
Alexander Wang is back in the game and his clothes speak for themselves—garters that read: “girls”, “tender” and “strict” all conveyed that downtown cool was here to stay and frankly for those downtown girls to wear. His departure at Balenciaga, seemed to have left the designer focused and hyperaware of the clothes he wants to design. Mohair minis with Marijuana leaves, sexed-up tweed suits and edgy, in-your-face accessories fit the bill and amped up his street cred.

Hood By Air Fall 2016, On The Street
One word: original. Designer, Shayne Oliver delivered a collection that bred street clothes in an entirely new way—streetwear that was reworked and made for a NYFW show that evoked originality, without hesitation.

Marc Jacobs, Nightcrawler
As the first model emerged, chimes or dinging bells continually went off as the show’s simplistic and hauntingly soundtrack. Jacobs’ show each season is a continual surprise and rather than carry on, his clothes were an imaginative version of what a gothic lolita would wear. Towering platforms, moody makeup and oversized coats bedecked with feathers were a must-see. And did you see Lady Gaga strutting with the rest of them?

Proenza Schouler Fall 2016, Bound
Jack and Lazaro are the dream team in essence, with clothes that define cool modernity with each passing season. In their recent show, their workmanship stood out in cutting-edge tailored, re-imagined evening dresses and laced-up knits. Another hit for the NY duo that tailors clothes for the girl and woman who wants to be seen in a fresh light.

Rag & Bone Fall 2016, Speed Racer
Sport was in this season at Rag & Bone. Moto-racer inspired jerseys made a strong mark, while lived-in outerwear was ready for the grizzly outdoors. The clothes enticed and emphasized a coolness factor that made these pieces covetable.
